Game 019 [Voice] - There's a Pun in Here...

With so many people suddenly dying, I was wondering: what's it like to die here, where death isn't permanent? If you've died back in your home world, what's the afterlife like where you're from?

And even if you haven't, does death seem less important, does it carry less weight here than it did back home?

Serious enough that the government, the church, and several private companies specializing in vampire hunting exist.

Depends on your definition. Do we find and kill entire nests? Yes. Do we lose hunters? Yes. Will we ever get rid of the vampires? Probably not. Considering it takes only one bite or scratch and so many of them prey on places off the beaten path...I think short of the human race dying out, there's no getting rid of them.

They came into existence because of the church and a group of excommunicated priests messing with things they shouldn't have been messing with.

And they perpetuated because the church tries to keep it secret. And the governments back them on it. And people...don't want to see until it happens to them.

Except it's usually not them that get attacked. It's the people that never had a chance to know until it's too late. Those are the ones I do my job for.

[Long silence]

...if the drugs work.

If not, I'll have to find someone willing to do me in. Can't both chop my own head off and stake myself in the heart.

[There's a quiet snort at that, and Derek shakes his head.]

Just the best thing to do for all involved.

[That gets a very long moment of silence. It's the sort of observation that makes the hunter uncomfortable and want to blurt out that really, it's nothing special. Instead, though, he just keeps his silence on the subject. It seems wiser.]

So what brought up the question?

Fair enough.
