Game 019 [Voice] - There's a Pun in Here...

With so many people suddenly dying, I was wondering: what's it like to die here, where death isn't permanent? If you've died back in your home world, what's the afterlife like where you're from?

And even if you haven't, does death seem less important, does it carry less weight here than it did back home?

[ And then, a short, clipped laugh. ] They knew all along, didn't They?

These aren't reports on the Game. More like a personal journal. There are loopholes.

[ Really, he just wants Joshua to see the lack of sin recorded in his reports. Wants to show the guy his perspective. Wants Josh to see what's been going on in his head, if only in some small way. ]

Wouldn't surprise me if They did.

A personal journal that They read every page of.

[ The one when he realized they'd been separated, the one right after Josh got all beaten up... There are reports in which he nearly admits to being worried for Joshua's well-being, and he wants those to be seen, even if it does little good. ]

I can come over now, drop 'em off.

All of them going how far back? That folder seemed pretty thick.

Since we got here. I've got maybe ten or eleven, some longer than others.

That far? I suppose I can.

You at your apartment?

[ Because he is. There's a sudden flare of background noise and shuffle of papers, a brief screech of feedback as he makes the jump, and then the sound of Sanae knocking at the door. ]

[ The journal abruptly goes silent for a moment. ]

Leave them outside.

[ There's a pause to rival Joshua's, and then a rustle and thud as he drops the folder. Still standing there. ]

You don't hafta let me in, just wanted to say hello.

[ This sound? This is the sound of silence greeting you, Sanae. ]

Would it make you feel any better to hold me at gunpoint?

[ It's a serious offer. ]

[ No. It wouldn't. It would mean you were that much closer, and Josh doesn't like that. Also have more silence. ]

... alright. Fair enough.

[ But Hanekoma can be a real bastard sometimes, and he wants to catch a glimpse of Joshua. The journal catches a too-high-frequency whine as he teleports... just a few yards down the hall. Vibe dropped way down and keeping as silent as he can, Sanae snaps the book shut and keeps his eyes on Josh's door. Maaaaybe his low vibe will be inconspicuous enough to slip under Joshua's radar. ]

[ And Joshua is going to listen quietly for a few moments. To the journal, and to the hallway. He hasn't picked up on the fact that Sanae hasn't actually left yet. ]

[ He can be stealthy when he wants to be, so Sanae keeps quiet, leaning against the wall a good distance from Joshua's door. Doesn't want to push his luck even further by getting too close. ]

[ After a little longer, Joshua gets up and goes to the door. He opens it and looks down at the reports on the floor, then sticks his head out and looks around. ]

[ There's a Hanekoma hanging out, pretty far down the hallway, with one hand in his pocket and the other holding that closed journal. Just leaning. And watching. ]

[ Joshua stares at him for a little while, then without looking away, leans down and grabs the papers from the floor. ]

[ Hanekoma smiles wryly and looks away, closes his eyes, shoulders lowering in a silent sigh.

And then he's gone. ]
