Game 046 [Voice/Action] - The Longest Two Years

I'm guessing most if not all of you have felt the phenomenon where time seems to move at different rates, even though you know it's all in your mind. So tell me, does being in Luceti cause time to feel different to you than it did when you were back home?

[ Two years. It's been two years, and after experiencing as much time slip by as Joshua has, feeling those two years is a less-than-welcome change.

As a distraction, he spends the day painting a side of his building that has been blank ever since a certain someone went home. It's certainly not Hanekoma's style, but it's similar to it, the color scheme the same though the designs are more fluid, less blocky and more streamlined, with harsh points instead of rounded curves.

Maybe this is his way of making peace with it. Maybe he's finally moved on.

Maybe he's just that homesick. ]

[ The shorter doesn't really surprise him. Human recollection tends to make light of previous experiences, after all. ]

No. I was a doctor back home. Nothing like the Malnosso experiments happened there.

What sort of doctor?

I was training to become a surgeon.

[Read: she was considered too young to be considered a surgeon, but her 'observing' tended to more accurately be 'advising'.]

The life of a training surgeon isn't intense?

It can't really be compared to the things that happen here.

[There's needing to keep her hands steady and her head clear - and there's dealing with being a world away from her friends, finally discovering the truth about herself only to have it ripped away from her and having to learn it all over again, turning into any number of things and having her mind tampered with any number of ways.]

I can't say I'd really know, but I'll take your word on that. Personally I'd imagine that being a surgeon brings life or death situations to you every day, but then again, they're not about your own life, are they?

[The things here affect whole worlds, even potentially the stability of those worlds - billions upon billions of people.

It's not because it's not about me. I want to do my best for each patient because each of them is important to me. This situation here is simply on a different level.

So that makes it all move faster?

Perceived time is affected by our situations.

I would think that more happening would make time appear to go slower in retrospect. It's less idle time to be forgotten.

People always feel the crunch of time at deadlines. [It's time with nothing to do, that goes slowly.]

Only when they misjudged how much they still have to do.

[It's a sensation the always-studious and organized Ami has little direct experience with; but she's seen her friends at exam times, back in high school.]

That might be true.

I've found that instead the anticipation leading up to a peak moment makes time seem to drag on, and then after it's passed the time slips away before you realize.

I guess it's something that ends up being different for everyone.

Indeed. And it's impossible to really understand what it's like for another, since we all perceive our own time in different ways.

It makes some things difficult to understand, doesn't it?

More than just some things.

Could you elaborate, please?

There's so many things in this world you can never understand, simply because you are only one perspective out of many.

Like the story about the blind men and the elephant. Each of them only describes a part of it.

And because of that, I can't fathom what it's like to be you, who thinks these years have gone quickly. You have no idea what it's like to be me, to whom these years have passed so slowly.
