Game 006 [Action] - Deserved That One, Really

[ If you happen to be around the outskirts of the forest, specifically along the edge closest to the mountains, you might happen to spot a tree with a glowing trunk. If you inspect further, you'll notice that the glow is in fact not coming from the tree, but a figure sitting at the base of the trunk.

Yes, it's Joshua. He landed in the mountains and managed to make his way to some semblance of shelter, but now that it's getting dark, the power he's been using to keep himself warm on this windy day is now a lot more visible. He's not going back to the village unless absolutely necessary unless his speech returns to normal, and he can easily survive a few more days without food.

If you dare poke him, he won't be happy to see anyone in the least. ]

[Why so angry, Forest Person?] Do you talk?

[ So angry because you're here, of course. But a slow shake of his head. He doesn't talk, per se. ]

That's gotta suck. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't talk. I love talking! [He invites himself to a seat beside Joshua.] So you just hang out here all day? Even in the cold?

[ Joshua rolls his eyes. Great, it's another talker. Probably shallow. Sociable, but likely has problems making good friends. Joshua's starting to be reminded of one of the more annoying aspects of back home, and he really doesn't like it. If he has to sit and watch people from afar without directly affecting them, he wants the rest of the perks that come with it. None of this huddling in a forest using his power to keep him warm crap.

He stands up and turns to leave. Looks like it's time to find another tree. ]

[Unfortunately, this shallow/sociable talker is also completely used to being ignored. He is unphased, and simply follows.] So you walk around too?I guess that's part of being a spirit, right? You have to roam the night endlessly or something? Did you die a long time ago and this is your punishment?

[ Joshua stops short. Really, if he weren't so frustrated, the irony would have probably made him laugh. He gives a shrug and keeps walking. The boy will run out of energy far faster than he will. ]

[And since Daisuke's not really the best at paying attention, he'll be colliding with Joshua's back right about now.] You're awful solid for a ghost.

[ That gets another shrug. Let him think what he wants. ]

Oh, right! You don't answer! We should come up with some kind of system so I can understand you.

[ You have fun with that. Joshua's just going to keep walking. ]

What about with blinking, like how it happens on TV? You blink once for yes and twice for no! Does that work?? [Annnnd STARE. He doesn't want to miss watching his brilliant plan in action.]

[ Joshua just gives him a deadpan stare. And turns and continues walking. He can nod and shake his head perfectly fine kthx, no need to make this more degrading than it already is. ]

[Silence is cool too! He's just going to fill it with more talking.] You understand my language, don't you? Or do you only understand ~spirit talk~? [With appropriate wiggly fingers for emphasis.]

[ You're lucky he's not looking at you, Daisuke, otherwise he'd probably smack you. Well, if Josh were the type to smack people. Instead he rolls his eyes out of view and shrugs again. ]

[Still, it had to be kind of lonely to live all by yourself where nobody could invite you for pizza! Even if he wouldn't be understood, he's determined to fill the silence!] I guess it's okay if you speak a different language or whatever. I had something kinda like that happen when I went to America that one time. It kinda sucks to have so many people around and not be able to talk to them, doesn't it?

[ No, the not being able to talk to them part is perfectly fine. It's the fact that they can talk to him that's annoying. Being unable to respond, now that sucks. ]

[If only Daisuke could take a hint. As it is, he'll just jog up ahead of Joshua to try reading his expression.] Hey, are you lonely?

[ Not right now, certainly. Right now Joshua is just kind of annoyed. He crosses his arms and glares. Whether or not he's actually lonely plays no part in the fact that he'd love for this kid to just stop talking to him. ]

[ Oh, really now?

Joshua is just going to turn and start walking back the way he came. As long as he loses this kid. Somehow. ]

[WHAT IS THIS PATH Daisuke doesn't understaaaaand~] Uh... Do you need help with anything? I can do lots of stuff!

[ Joshua sighs to himself and points into the forest, in roughly the direction he thinks the village is. ]

[OH HEY A REACTION HE DOES UNDERSTAND!! It's a shame the comprehension doesn't run both ways.] You... want me to get you nuts and berries?

Oh, you're a special one. Joshua shakes his head, but he keeps pointing. ]

[ Close, if you want to say that Daisuke's from the village. Joshua points to him, and then back into the forest. ]

[He chews on the inside of his cheek for a moment while he contemplates the complexities of the gesture.] You want me to... go over there?

[ Brilliant. Joshua nods. ]

[ Sure kid, you keep thinking that. Joshua's just going to lower his arm and resume walking now. ]
